Power consumption

I've been looking at how much power my computers use. It turns out the computer I was going to use a server (an Athlon 1.4GHz) actually draws more power than my desktop (an AthlonXP ~2.10GHz) by then Watts or so. The fan on the graphics card probably makes up for that though.

The Pentium III I had upstairs which I didn't know if I should use as the server instead uses more or less a fourth of what the Athlon does.

A bit of "computer surgery" later and I now have a PIII with 383 megs of RAM and 50 gigs of total hard drive space of which maybe 20 will have to be taken off because that hard drive makes the boot really slow.

I do have just over half the processing power with the PIII, but it comes with a forth of consumption, and for what the computer is going to be doing most of the time, I just don't need it.

Long time no see

It's been a long time since I posted anything here.

In that time, I've managed to get the USB ACX100 chip to almost work. Crashes are gone and chunks of memory are now allocated dynamically.

The problem that still remains is the filling of the tx and rx descriptors and the fragmentation code.

The first is a bit tricky, because I need to find everywhere where we should free a descriptor but we don't. The second is more of a problem, because that code is at the same time scary and confusing.
